Ravenswood admits ‘bully’ claims against student were false as matter settled out of court

On October 5, 2016, Ravenswood School for Girls admitted the allegations made by Tiffany Thomas-Kane against Charlotte Haynes were false and unfounded. The lies told about a thirteen-year-old girl at year 8 camp in 2015 were never tested by the Principal - Vicki Steer, the Deputy - David Garner nor any of the following teachers: Anton Kendall, Katherine Raftesath, Cathy Pitts, Hayley Humphries, Tammy Rees-Davies and Reverend Jon Humphries.
-
Every school has a duty of care to treat every child equally regardless of their ability or standing in the community.
-
Educators have no right to put their reputation ahead of those they are employed to nurture and protect.
-
Instead of providing a duty of care and natural justice to all the children, the teachers believed the outrageous lies without testing the storyteller.
-
Charlotte Haynes was held in a room for four hours. She was interrogated without her parent's knowledge and with no support.
-
Charlotte and her family were never told what she was accused of until their meeting with five members of the school's disciplinary committee two weeks after camp. Charlotte was given no right of reply nor right of appeal.
-
Vicki Steer and David Garner lied, manipulated and withheld information at the meeting.
-
Tara Black (a fellow Year 8 student to whom Tiffany told her story) was Tiffany's mouthpiece. Tara later admitted:
-
she wasn't in the cabin to see what supposedly happened.
-
she wrote what Tiffany told her to and embellished it to 'make it sound better'.
-
the story was made up just to get Charlotte in ‘a bit of trouble’.
-
she was never questioned about the story she wrote.
-
-
The only inappropriate behaviour at camp came from Tiffany Thomas-Kane who pulled her pants down and mooned everyone on a number of occasions.
-
The video opposite shows Tiffany Thomas-Kane, Tara Black and others laughing while Tiffany squeezes herself into a locker in the change rooms at Ravenswood. This video was taken less than three weeks after year 8 camp.
-
Seven of the nine teachers involved in the year 8 Camp fiasco left the school within twelve months.
-
Four members of the School Council resigned after mediation failed.
-
In 2017 there was an independent investigation into David Garner’s bullying treatment of the three Haynes’ children, specifically of Sarah Haynes who was the 2015 School Captain. He left the school immediately the findings came through.
-
It took eighteen months for the school to admit the allegations made were false and unfounded. With an independent investigation, it would have taken two weeks. Out of fairness to all children involved, the school was consistently asked to conduct an independent investigation. They refused.
Ravenswood School for Girls is marketed as a Christian School with Christian values. Vicki Steer, David Garner and the fourteen members of School Council knew there was no truth to the allegations. Reputation was everything. They showed no compassion, empathy or consideration for the health and well being of a thirteen-year-old child and her sisters.
-
2019: Five years later, Tiffany Thomas-Kane continues her lie. This time, directly to the media. In the following interview by SBS Australia, Tiffany lies about her alleged experience 'locked in a cupboard' on camp. SBS say this interview is factual. This interview is made up of lies.
-
There NEVER was a cupboard in the cabin. There were four bunk beds and a bathroom. Somersby Cabins, Glenworth Valley do not have cupboards.
-
Tiffany ... where is this mysterious cupboard? It does not exist. It is a lie, just like your story, just like your accusations. You are accusing four innocent girls of doing something they NEVER did.
-
Tiffany ... admit the lie and draw a line under the truth? The guilt is yours to carry.
